The causes of the difficulty to believe in God in Western society are cultural (secularization). This phenomenon does not cancel the persistence and universality of the belief in God, even when it is not favored by culture. The root of this persistence is the natural inclination to believe in an absolute, which is normally understood as God, a transcendent and truly existent God. Some indications of two philosophers, Xavier Zubiri and Leonardo Polo, shed light on the characteristics of this inclination and can also explain, partially, the anthropological foundation of the difficulty that a person can find to believe in God (atheism, religious indifferentism).
