Abstract

The expression “language of nature” underscores that human nature is not a neutral biological fact but a meaningful structure oriented towards the good. Three fundamental tendencies—preservation, connection and knowledge—are distinguished, which, in the individual, require learning and deliberation. These tendencies underlie educable dimensions (executive, affective and cognitive) whose integration depends on the virtues. According to Magda Arnold, emotion reflects the evaluation of that which affects the self and operates as a functional signal for self-regulation. This framework allows us to understand the relationship between nature, virtue and mental health, and provides a foundation for educational and therapeutic applications aimed at human flourishing.
